Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a medieval village on the side of a hill that is overlooked by the ruins of the Pope's ancient Chateau towering above. From the Chateau ruins you have an outstanding view in all directions, primarily of vineyards of course. To the east and south, the Rhône river winds through the fields, a splendid sight especially in the late-afternoon sun of summer. One of France's most famous wine regions, nearly everyone has heard of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, indeed it was France's first ever Appellation Controlee, established in 1932. The big rounded ancient river boulders (galets roules) that lay across vast areas of vineyard land are key to Châteauneuf's ability to achieve famous ripeness levels in its grapes, and they make for a great photo opportunity for tourists. At their best, the wines of Châteauneuf are fabulously rich, ripe and powerful with lashings of syrupy fruit and classic dried herb notes. Hedonistic warmth and power that makes it easy to see why a good Châteauneuf is the pinnacle of enjoyment for many wine drinkers.


Deep garnet red color. This expressive wine opens up to berry fruits underscored by hints of forest undergrowth, spices and balsamic notes. On the palate, it has a nice balance between complexity and roundness. The finish is long with stewed fruity notes.

Serving suggestions

Open it 2 hours before serving between 16 and 18°C. Although excellent now, this Cru will gain complexity and elegance with a cellaring period of 5 to 8 years.
