Description
Argentina’s First Grand Cru
Felipe Rutini ranks among Argentina’s most prestigious wines and the finest wines in South America. Today, it is widely recognised as Argentina’s First Grand Cru. This iconic wine honours the legacy of Felipe Rutini, a pioneer who helped shape the modern Argentine wine industry. Moreover, it combines exceptional terroir, meticulous craftsmanship, and more than a century of winemaking expertise.
Rutini Wines launched Felipe Rutini in 1981 and released the first vintage in 1985 to celebrate the winery’s centenary. Furthermore, the label became the first in Argentina to carry the founder’s name. This bold move set a new standard for premium winemaking. As a result, Argentina’s First Grand Cru quickly established a reputation for quality, consistency, and elegance.
The Legacy of Rutini Wines
Felipe Rutini founded Rutini Wines in 1885. Over the following decades, the winery played a major role in developing Argentine viticulture. In 1925, Rutini became the first winery to plant vineyards in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. Today, wine lovers around the world recognise the region for its outstanding quality and unique terroir.
The winery has always embraced innovation. For example, Rutini modernised its historic La Rural facilities during the 1990s. Later, it opened a state-of-the-art winery in Tupungato in 2008. In addition, the portfolio now includes Felipe Rutini, Antología, Apartado, Single Vineyard, Dominio, Colección Rutini, Encuentro, and Trumpeter.
High-Altitude Vineyards and Winemaking Excellence
Rutini’s vineyards sit between 1,050 and 1,200 metres above sea level. Consequently, cool temperatures and large day-to-night temperature shifts help the grapes ripen slowly. These conditions enhance concentration, freshness, and complexity. At the same time, they allow the wines to express the character of Mendoza’s high-altitude terroir.
Rutini Wines produces approximately 8.5 million litres each year. Nevertheless, the winery maintains a strong focus on quality. Mariano Di Paola has led the winemaking team since 1994. Since then, his expertise and vision have helped strengthen Rutini’s reputation both in Argentina and internationally.
Meanwhile, a dedicated agronomy team manages each vineyard block with precision. As a result, the winery harvests fruit at optimal ripeness and quality.
A Benchmark for Premium Argentinian Wine
Rutini combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. In particular, the winery uses advanced fermentation systems and more than 6,500 French oak barrels. These resources help create wines with remarkable balance, depth, and ageing potential.
Today, Argentina’s First Grand Cru stands as a benchmark for premium Argentine wine. Furthermore, it reflects the vision of its founder and the continuous pursuit of excellence at Rutini Wines. Collectors and enthusiasts value the wine for its quality, heritage, and consistency. Therefore, Argentina’s First Grand Cru continues to showcase the very best of Mendoza. As a result, it remains one of the country’s most celebrated wine labels.
Aging: 30 months in french oak.
