Description

Los Dominios de Berceo (Berceo’s Domaines) Bodegas Berceo was founded in 1801. It is the oldest winery of the city of Haro, located in the heart of appellation Rioja. It is the only winery of that time with a vertical design that continues working.

Vineyard: 1890 Manzanos, singular vineyard, this Garnacha vineyard was planted in 1981 in the town of Aldea nueva de Ebro (La Rioja). It is a vineyard in a 3 arms old bush of 2.28 Ha of extension located on a hillside at 420 meters of altitude with east orientation where it has very good conditions of light and temperature. It is a low production vineyard where the quality of the grapes is exceptional to be able to make our Singular Vineyard wine, Palacio de Manzanos. Clay-loam soil, of medium depth with areas of round stones and white pebbles. Continental Mediterranean climate where winters are long and cold, with moderate rainfall, and summers are short and warm with strong temperature contrast between day and night. In addition, it is an area that is characterised by the influence of the cold and dry wind from the northwest called Cierzo which runs through the valley of the Ebro river.

Vinification: Handpicked in boxes of 12 kg with a first selection of grapes in vineyard and a second selection in table before entering the deposit. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28ºC in small open 3000 L deposits using gentle manual bâtonnage daily. The maceration period is o 15 days with a 10% of whole cluster. The malolactic fermentation takes places in new and second year used French oak barrels and later the wine rests in concrete tanks to continue its evolution. Unfiltered and respecting the maximum quality of the product looking to translate the essence and experience lived in this vineyard to every bottle of wine. The wine produced is subjected to a double qualitative assessment.

Ageing: Barrel: 10 months, 100 % french oak barrel, light toast.

Notes

Appearance
Attractive and intense cherry colour with garnet notes.

Aroma
Complex and elegant nose, highlighting the aromas of ripe and concentrated red and black fruit. We found forest fruits such as cherry, redcurrant and blackber-ry. Spicy and balsamic nuances topped with roasted and dairy notes coming from the aging in our best barrels.

Taste
In mouth it is round, concentrated and balanced with well-integrated medium-high acidity. Persistent and expressive with a fine tannin, our wine marks the notes and the character of a grenache typical of our terroir.
